UW Medicine 15th Annual John D. Loeser Pain Conference 2022 Pain is one of the most common reasons for people to seek medical care, and Primary Care Providers (PCPs) are the most important providers of acute and chronic pain care for adults and children in the United States. Chronic pain is highly associated with disability, depression, anxiety, prescription opioid use and misuse, and worse outcomes of medical and surgical problems.
The Annual John D. Loeser Pain Conference offers PCPs a changing annual focus to allow providers to meet current topical needs to enable them to meet changing guidelines and new rules, and to allow attendees to focus on subjects that are particularly relevant to their practice and evolving clinical practice competency needs.
The 15th Annual John D. Loeser Pain Conference will focus on the practical approaches to management of common chronic pain conditions such as long COVID, IBS, pelvic pain, and facial pain. The afternoon will focus on updates on our understanding of opioids, national and state opioid prescribing guidelines, and buprenorphine for OUD. The lecturers are instructed to ensure that their talks are evidence-based and practically oriented and case-based, only including the theoretical considerations that are necessary to understand the material.
- Review the new ICD-11 pain classification
- Describe treatment strategies for common pain problems including pelvic pain, IBS and orofacial pain
- Develop a plan for your patients with long-COVID-19 syndrome, including pain and fatigue
