Description
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Musculoskeletal Oncology Symposium 2024
Musculoskeletal Oncology Symposium
Orthopaedic oncology is a highly specialized area that focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of primary bone and soft tissue tumors as well as musculoskeletal metastases in other cancers. This complex patient population requires specialized care delivered collaboratively by a multidisciplinary team that requires up-to-date knowledge regarding treatment options and advances in care.
Musculoskeletal Oncology Symposium
The purpose of this symposium is to provide clinicians with a general overview of the evaluation, diagnosis, management, and outcomes of common musculoskeletal bone and soft tissue tumors including Ewing’s sarcoma, chondrosarcoma, and osteosarcoma, as well metastatic musculoskeletal lesions. Additional sections will utilize a lecture and case study-based approach to discuss best practices in surgical and non-surgical techniques, post-op complications, and oncological emergencies.
The target audience for this program includes nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified registered nurse anesthetists, physicians, and nurses who care for oncology patients.
- Compare the evaluation of primary bone and soft tissue tumors vs metastatic disease
- Describe the most common primary bone and soft tissue sarcomas including Ewing’s sarcoma, osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma
- Review common treatment modalities for the pediatric and adult patient with a primary bone tumor vs metastatic bone disease
- Describe novel surgical approaches in the orthopaedic oncology patient
