We are back in 2023! This accredited nursing conference is designated to address practical issues and clinical challenges that oncology nurses face each day. During this two-day conference, attendees will benefit from an intimate learning environment in which prominent faculty will present the latest in oncology care and provide practical strategies and tools to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes. - Identify new drugs/agents that have been FDA approved for cancer treatment in 2023 and recognize how new drugs/agents are given generic names and how to gain information based on the naming system.
- Describe the unique benefits of an intergenerational and diverse workforce and identify how to cultivate expertise in the novice oncology nurse.
- Identify the barriers to effective communication in the care of oncology patients. Demonstrate three core communication skills when working with oncology patients, their families, and physicians.
- Describe what factors contribute to the development of resiliency when faced with a sudden or serious change in health circumstances.
- Describe the physiology of the disease process, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatments comparing and contrasting leukemia and lymphoma.
- Describe three cultural myths that are barriers to good care for people with serious illness, how to overcome them and describe communication tools to help with serious illness, understanding patient goals and values and how palliative care can help people live well and long.
- Identify one workplace violence trend that applies to your clinical setting. Recall two common responses to workplace violence and propose one way to improve the safety of your healthcare setting.
- Describe young adult sexuality in the trajectory of normal developmental milestones and recognize potential changes because of a cancer diagnosis. R
- Recognize common perioperative complications for patients undergoing surgery for gynecologic (gyn) cancer, understand the role of minimally invasive surgery in gyn cancer and the nurse’s role with the elements of ERAS and patient success
- Identify communication strategies to facilitate an open and reciprocal dialogue about common sexual problems. S
- List and summarize the latest advances in melanoma treatment, terminology, and technical aspects of melanoma care.
- Describe the benefits of daily mindfulness and how to incorporate the same practices into oncology patient care
- Provide an overview of the most common hereditary cancer syndromes, causative genes, and the management guidelines.
- Identify current lung cancer screening recommendations and additional patient characteristics that indicate need for screening and discuss various surgical options for the treatment of lung and esophageal cancer.
- Describe how to unleash the potential of better collegial support and recognize the impact on the emotional, social, and physical wellbeing of the oncology nursing staff, which leads to improved patient care and patient outcomes.
- Discuss the pathophysiology of the different types of infusion related HSR to chemotherapy and immunotherapy agents and review strategies for prevention and treatment. Develop an evidence-based treatment plan for the management of infusion-related HSR.
