The Clinical Reasoning Series in Pharmacotherapy has been approved by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) as one component of the professional development programs developed by ACCP for recertification of the Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS).

This educational series explores cutting-edge, contemporary therapeutic topics and demonstrates scientifically sound clinical reasoning and decision-making. It employs learning activities designed to advance the participants’ skills and abilities to critically evaluate the scientific evidence and effectively incorporate significant findings into daily practice that lead to effective and safe patient care.

Target on Oncology Pharmacotherapy: Updates, Safety, and Management of Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor and Immune Effector Cell Therapies

Target on Oncology Pharmacotherapy: Updates, Safety, and Management of Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor and Immune Effector Cell Therapies will focus on how the board-certified pharmacotherapy pharmacist can recognize and manage medication-related therapies and concerns in this specialized patient population. The presentation will provide a review of immune checkpoint inhibitor and immune effector cell therapy, therapeutic patient monitoring, therapy-related adverse events, and how to manage select therapy-related events. Board certified pharmacotherapy specialists who manage or encounter patients receiving oncologic medication treatment, and pharmacists who engage in medication monitoring and safety will have much to gain by attending this session. This activity offers 1.50 contact hours of CPE and/or BCPS recertification credit.

• Recognition and management of immune checkpoint inhibitor toxicities
• Differentiation and management of immune effector cell therapy toxicities

Revolutionizing Pulmonary Care: Integrating Medication Management into Practice

Revolutionizing Pulmonary Care: Integrating Medication Management into Practice will provide a review of recently approved medications for asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and obstructive sleep apnea with comorbid obesity. The session will explore current approaches to identifying and managing overlapping features of asthma and COPD, termed asthma-COPD overlap, and management of severe disease with a focus on biologic agents. The presentation will also emphasize the critical role of the pharmacist in patient-centered education and implementing updated immunization recommendations relevant to pulmonary care. Participants will engage with current literature to support diagnosis, identify disease-specific factors influencing pharmacotherapy, and apply appropriate monitoring strategies to optimize treatment outcomes. This activity offers 1.50 contact hours of CPE and/or BCPS recertification credit.

Managing Risk: Transitions in Antithrombotic Therapy and Lipid Medication Management

Managing Risk: Transitions in Antithrombotic Therapy and Lipid Medication Management will provide an overview of how to approach peri-procedural antithrombotic medication therapy, as well as how to determine the most appropriate patient-specific therapeutic monitoring plan throughout various stages of patient care. This session will also provide updates to lipid management by highlighting new risk assessment tools and biomarkers, providing guidance on when statin therapy may or may not be appropriate, and addressing novel lipid-lowering therapies in the pipeline. Presentation titles are: What A Thrill! Launching Into Peri-ACS Antithrombotic Therapies and Catching the Wave of Integrated Care: Predictive Models and Emerging Therapies in Cardiovascular Risk Management. The dual presentation will include guidance for medication therapy modifications, diagnosis-related considerations, therapeutic monitoring, and application of gained knowledge to patient case studies. Presenters will participate in a Q&A panel. This activity offers 3.0 contact hours of CPE and/or BCPS recertification credit.
